Cancer Council Victoria are hosting a new group of Masters students in 2025, enabling them to gain vital experience and exposure to research during their final year of study. Students are supervised by researchers in the Cancer Epidemiology Division who provide guidance and mentorship to develop key skills for conducting high-quality research integral to their future careers in epidemiology, biostatistics and public health.

Our cancer epidemiology researchers explore a wide range of research topics, allowing students to investigate real-world public health issues. Collaboration and teamwork are emphasised, creating an environment where students can share ideas and learn from one another.

In the Cancer Epidemiology Division the students will cultivate their skills in data analysis, statistical methods, interpretation of results, critical thinking and written and oral communication.

The 2025 cohort of students are exploring topics such as:

  • biomarkers of cancer risk
  • gestational diabetes and subsequent risk of cancer
  • infectious diseases and cancer risk
  • dietary patterns

This intake of new student researchers will enrich the research environment at Cancer Council Victoria. We are proud to help shape the next generation of public health leaders who will go on to make important contributions in this field.
